Ah, Renegade. Was this a great FPS? Absolutely not. But c'mon. It let you be an actual solider in a Command and Conquer game! For that reason alone, it's obtained enduring cult status.
Depending on who you ask, Tiberian Sun is either a great sequel or a horrible disappointment. Despite being divisive, its excellent engine, trippy score, and deformable landscapes all impressed.
Westwood Studios may have set the stage with Dune 2, but it was Command and Conquer that truly resonated with PC gamers. This landmark RTS's varied campaign and charismatic FMV cutscenes were a huge draw back in 1995.
This fantastic sequel refined the blueprint of Command and Conquer. More nuanced, and adding a far greater number of units and buildings, this polished RTS has stood the test of time.
It might be a little straight-laced, but Generals stands talls as a genuinely great RTS game. The way infantry, vehicles and static defenses all interact in intricate fashion is hugely satisfying.
The apex of Command and Conquer. Red Alert 2 takes everything great about the series and refines it to near perfection. Its excellent campaign is knitted together by cutscenes that hit just the right level of ham. An all-time RTS great.
